With over one million apps available for download, and many of those free or costing only 99 cents, most iPhone users flock to the App Store to make the most of all that the device has to offer. One of the most convenient things about the iPhone is that the download and installation of apps is completely automated -- you don't have to select a file location, create a folder name or choose your setup options. If your smartphone refuses to download new apps, however, try troubleshooting your device to pinpoint the source of the problem.
Check Your Data Connection
Confirm your iPhone is connected to a wireless or data connection. Open 'Settings' from the Home screen and then turn off 'Airplane Mode,' if applicable. If you're not in your home or office, or if you don't have access to a public hot spot, open the 'Cellular' menu and confirm Cellular Data is turned on. If you are within range of an available wireless network, open the 'Wi-Fi' menu and make sure your device is connected to your local hot spot. If the signal bar for your network indicates a poor connection, try moving closer to your router or access point.
Sign In to Your Apple ID
To download and install apps from the App Store, you must first log in to your Apple ID. If you paused an installation and then resumed it later, your session may have timed out. Similarly, you may have entered your password incorrectly too many times, causing the App Store to halt all downloads. In the App Store, touch 'Featured' and then scroll to the bottom page. Touch your account name and then select 'View Apple ID.' If your session has timed out, iOS will prompt you to re-enter your password. If you can't remember your login credentials, touch 'iForgot' and follow the onscreen prompts.
Restart the App Store
If you're connected to the Internet and are signed in to your Apple ID, the download function in the App Store may be frozen. To forcibly close the app, press the Home button twice to bring up the task switcher and then swipe up on the screenshot above the App Store. Relaunching the app from the Home screen will load a fresh copy of the App Store into the memory. If the problem persists, power your device off and then on again; this may clear any bugs affecting iOS from the device's memory.
Update Your Phone
If an update to iOS is available from your carrier, try upgrading your iPhone, as the problem may be due to a bug in your current OS. Your iPhone should automatically inform you of a new update when you connect to a wireless or data connection, but you can also check for updates in iTunes. Download the latest software upgrade by touching 'Settings | General | Software Update | Download and Install.' Before you update your phone, make sure to back up your data using iCloud or iTunes.

In this post, I have addressed one of the post-update problems on apps download and update with the #Apple iPhone 6s (#iPhone6s) handset. In this case, the user can no longer download or update apps after installing the latest iOS 9.3.2 on his device. Learn what are your options should you too encounter the same issue after getting the latest iOS firmware update for the same iPhone variant.
Firmware updates are primarily made to offer performance enhancements to mobile devices. They also embed certain fix patches that will eliminate existing bugs and glitches found in prior firmware platforms. While these updates have undergone through a series of prudent testing and debugging procedures prior to final rollout, it doesn't mean they will be totally flawless upon implementation.
Possible Causes
Given the fact that users can add as many third-party apps as they want into their iPhone, there is a higher chance of software incompatibility to arise when newer iOS firmware versions are implemented. Clashing of program structures between the firmware update and a third-party app would usually result to a faulty or dysfunctional device.
If you see any message warning prompts or error codes while attempting to perform a post-update task, be sure to take note of them as they can give you hints as to what has went wrong and what should be done as remedy.
Potential Solutions
While an official fix patch isn't yet available, resolving this problem isn't really impossible. In fact, many of those who have encountered similar problem on apps installation and updating were able to deal with it using any of these subsequent workarounds. It wouldn't hurt if you too would give them a try this time.
Step 1. Reboot your iPhone
Software-related issues like this are often resolved by a simple reboot on the device. So be sure not to skip this process. You may need to reboot your iPhone more than once until minor software glitches are recalibrated. To do so follow these steps:
- Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button
- Move the slider to turn off your phone.
- After a few seconds, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until your device turns on.
After that go back to the App Store and attempt to download or update apps again.
Step 2. Quit all running apps
After you closed all running applications, restart your iPhone and then retry to update your apps.
To quit all running apps on your iPhone, follow these steps:
- Go to the Home
- Double press the Home button or 3D Touch.
- Swipe up on All to close or quit all apps running in the background.
Step 3. Sign out from and sign in to the App Store.
Quit the App Store application. If necessary, swipe it away to close the app completely. Here's how it's done:
- Go to your iPhone Settings.
- Tap on iTunes and App Store.
- Tap on your Apple ID.
- Select Sign Out from the given options.
- Go back to the App Store and then sign in to your account.
Step 4. Clear App Store cache
Caches may contain corrupt files that can inflict software problems like this to occur on your iPhone. And so, clearing cache from the App Store might as well be an aid. To do so, follow these steps:
- Open the App Store.
- Once you're in the App Store screen, scroll down to the bottom of the screen and you should see some buttons or icons.
- Tap on any of the buttons (preferably the Updates button) 10 times and that should do it.
Step 5. Reset the App Store
If necessary, quit the App Store application first. After a few seconds, Open the App Store app again and then wait for it to completely load up. You will know if it's completely loaded if you see the front page populated with pertinent information. Continue with these steps:
- Wait for the RED notification numbers to show up on the UPDATES button and then tap the UPDATES button.
- Next, quickly tap the upper-right corner just beneath the battery status indicator. You really need to be very quick to get the timing.
- If you're quick enough to catch the update button, you should be able to see your apps starting to update. If not, then you should go back to tapping the UPDATES button again as fast as you could. You may need to have several attempts until you succeed.
Important Notes:
- Quickly tap the UPDATEbutton on an app before it changes to OPEN. You may have to try it several times before you get it to work.
- A really fast tapping either on Update or Update All button is a workaround here.

Step 6. Reset all settings
This method has also helped other users in dealing with this issue. Please note that all your personalized data and customized apps settings will also be erased in the process. If you are willing to give it a try, here's how:
- Go to Settings.
- Tap on General.
- Tap Reset to continue.
- Select the option to Reset All Settings.

After the settings reset, attempt to install or update apps again and see how it does this time.
Step 7. Wait a little longer
Others who have encountered problems updating or installing apps after the iOS 9.3.2 update have done nothing but to wait. Sometimes, it could take time for the update to blend with the existing system structure of your device.
Apple server overload can also be the culprit considering the high volume users who are attempting to access the server for the update. Hence, you should allow the server to complete each and every request made and then once everything is all set, your iPhone functions and services should normally resume.
If all the aforesaid workarounds don't work on your end and that waiting is not your option, I suggest contacting your carrier next, and notify them about the problem. Escalating post-update issues will make it possible for Apple to offer prompt response and upshot solution.
